School of Advanced Studies

Training activities

UNICAM has recently instituted an international School of Advanced Studies with the objective of increasing the participation of foreign candidates in our PhD programs. Foreign candidates will receive preferential treatment in the awarding of PhD fellowships within the international School of Advanced Studies.

The PhD courses involve 3 years of study and research , with a final thesis that can be written in either English or Italian. Teaching activities mainly involve seminars and topical Short Courses; research experience in laboratories outside of Camerino is possible and actively encouraged. Approximately half of the students admitted to the PhD programs will be awarded fully paid fellowships; the other students will need to find external financial support (however, research costs will be met with internal funds).

Modern drugs and traditional treatments in the control of malaria:
a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural approach

Training workshop
Camerino, Italy,  17 - 25 July 2008

The training workshop is targeted to doctoral candidates in biomedical and social science disciplines, working in the field of malaria or who plan to be involved in malaria research and control in their future.
The main focus of the workshop is on: (i) modern drugs, traditional treatments and drug/treatment delivery strategies; (ii) the research methodologies applied by biomedical and social science disciplines; (iii) the factors (biological-technical, socio-economic, cultural, political) that determine accessibility to and affordability of drugs/remedies and that influence treatment behaviour of populations living in endemic areas.
The workshop can rely on the expertise of lecturers and facilitators from malaria research and control institutions from different malaria endemic countries (Ghana, Burkina Faso, Rep. of Congo), from WHO and from the Italian Malaria Network.
It is structured in plenary sessions and discussion groups in which participants will focus on the malaria situation in selected countries.
The detailed programme, the application form and contacts for any further information are available at [link]
